Pet Center is committed to responsible pet adoption and ensuring pets find safe, caring, and stable homes. We carefully match adopters with pets to create successful, long-term placements. Every adoption is treated as a serious commitment to the pet's lifetime wellbeing.
Adoption Process
Our adoption process is designed to ensure a good match between adopter and pet. The typical process includes:
- Initial Inquiry: Customer contacts us about a specific pet or general adoption interest
- Adoption Application: Complete our adoption form with household, experience, and care information
- Conversation: Our adoption team discusses the pet's personality, needs, and your lifestyle
- Home Assessment: We may ask questions about living space, family members, existing pets, and experience
- Match Decision: We make a final decision based on suitability and availability
- Adoption Agreement: Sign binding adoption agreement with responsibilities and commitments
- Finalization: Transfer ownership, provide health records, and ongoing support
Adoption Eligibility
To adopt from Pet Center, you must:
- Be at least 18 years old
- Provide valid identification
- Have a stable home and income (proof may be requested)
- Commit to providing appropriate care, food, shelter, and veterinary attention
- Agree to be responsible for the pet's wellbeing for its entire life
- Allow Pet Center to contact you for adoption follow-up
Adoption Application Questions
Our adoption application asks about:
- Living situation (house, apartment, rental, etc.)
- Family members and their ages
- Experience with the species/breed
- Other pets currently in the home
- Time available for animal care and attention
- Backup plans if circumstances change (moves, job changes, etc.)
- Veterinary references (if previously owned pets)
Adoption Fees
Adoption fees help support Pet Center's animal care, feeding, veterinary services, and adoption placement process. Fees vary based on pet age, species, and any special needs or services provided.
Adoption fees are non-refundable once the adoption is finalized, though we may work with you if circumstances change immediately after adoption.
Adoption Agreement
All adoptions require signing a binding Adoption Agreement that includes:
- Adopter's commitment to lifetime pet care
- Agreement to provide appropriate shelter, food, and veterinary care
- Responsibility for training, socialization, and behavioral care
- Agreement that if circumstances prevent continued care, pet must return to Pet Center
- Pet Center's right to take back the pet if abuse or neglect is discovered
- Pet's spay/neuter status and any restrictions
- Health guarantee coverage (applies to adoptions too)
Health Guarantee with Adoptions
Every adoption is covered by Pet Center's 14-Day Health Guarantee. If the adopted pet is diagnosed with a serious pre-existing health condition within 14 days of adoption, you may be eligible for:
- Veterinary cost reimbursement
- Pet replacement
- Full refund of adoption fee
Pet Ownership Responsibilities
As an adopter, you become fully responsible for:
- Daily feeding with appropriate, quality nutrition
- Fresh water at all times
- Appropriate shelter and safe living environment
- Regular veterinary care including vaccinations and preventative medicine
- Training, socialization, and behavioral care appropriate to the species
- Exercise and enrichment appropriate to the pet's age and energy level
- Emergency veterinary care if needed
- Lifetime commitment to the pet's wellbeing
Post-Adoption Support
Pet Center provides support after adoption to help ensure success:
- Transition Guidance: We offer advice on helping your pet adjust to its new home
- Behavioral Support: Questions about behavior or training? Contact us for guidance
- Follow-up Calls: We may call to check on your new family member
- Vet Communication: We can coordinate with your veterinarian if needed
- Ongoing Access: Adopters can always reach out with questions or concerns
What If You Can No Longer Care For The Pet?
Life circumstances change. If you can no longer care for your adopted pet:
- Contact Pet Center Immediately: Email adopt@petcenterco.com with details
- DO NOT Surrender to Another Shelter: We want to help and may be able to assist or take the pet back
- Discuss Options: We'll talk about the situation and find the best solution
- Return Process: If returning the pet, we'll arrange logistics and may discuss the adoption agreement
Adoption Violations
Pet Center reserves the right to reclaim an adopted pet if we discover:
- Abuse or neglect
- Abandonment or mistreatment
- Failure to provide required veterinary care
- Unauthorized resale or transfer of the pet
- Conditions that violate the Adoption Agreement
Adoption FAQs
How long does the adoption process take?
Typical adoption process takes 3-7 days from application to finalization, depending on your availability for conversations and decision-making.
Can I adopt if I rent my home?
Yes, renters can adopt. We may ask for proof of landlord approval or a lease clause allowing pets. Some pets are not suitable for apartments or may have restrictions.
Do you have any breed restrictions?
We don't discriminate by breed, but we match pets based on your living situation and experience. Large or high-energy pets may not be suitable for all homes.
What if the adoption doesn't work out?
Contact us immediately. We're here to help problem-solve or discuss options. Your pet's wellbeing is our priority.
Are adopted pets spayed/neutered?
Yes, all adopted pets are spayed or neutered before adoption. This is part of our responsible adoption practice.
